From Bush to Community: The Story of Nomawethu Stuurman
Born in Alicedale, raised by the bush, Nomawethu Stuurman made history as South Africa’s first black female ranger. But she didn’t stop there.
Through the Pumba Foundation Trust, she’s transforming Seven Fountains village — building gardens, youth centres, sewing projects, soup kitchens, and crèches.
The results?
- Drop in school dropouts
- Lower alcohol & drug abuse
- Women gaining skills & income
- Youth accessing education & jobs
Her philosophy is simple:
“We don’t fish for people. We teach them how to fish.”
Nomawethu is proof that when women lead with courage, entire communities rise! For more information on the Pumba Foundation, please click here.
