Media Release: Kasi kind of fun in Makhanda
Monday, 24th October 2022
Even though there is no better place to enjoy a tshisanyama experience than in Makhanda, Makhanda stretches itself to be more than just a meat lover’s mecca. The taverns that are in historic areas in Makhanda also dish out a bustling vibe of great music, drinks, company, music, and just the perfect way to immerse yourself in the community, culture, and history of Makhanda!
As we move towards the festive season, Makana Tourism has embarked on a 'Creative City: Coming Home’ campaign. The line-up of activities includes a township cruise experience. "We would like to celebrate the authenticity of our region by inviting all those who have never experienced the kasi kind of fun to come along on a township cruise. "The cruise, which is supported by Sarah Baartman District Municipality, will be guided by a local and take participants on a memorable exploration of Makhanda East’s notable landscape and history with stops at popular taverns," said Makana Tourism Acting Director, Prudence Mini.
Those who have visited Makhanda's townships know that there is no fun without food! The township cruisers will feel at home and be able to sink their teeth into the spread of tshisanyama and enjoy their favourite beverages - as we all know, kasi people are very hospitable.
"We hope this and the other activities that we have lined up from now until December will reactivate everyone that has made a connection with Makhanda or the Makana region, either through school, varsity, visiting family or random visits, to come back ‘home’ so we can enjoy what makes us stand out from the rest," added Mini.
Makana Tourism Board Chairperson, Aldy Meyer, said one of the main objectives of Makana Tourism is to inform and remind people about how special their home is while promoting the city as a tourist destination to benefit the people of Makana. "It is important for the residents of Makhanda to be knowledgeable about their city so they can be proud and feel encouraged to tell their stories to the world that Makhanda is the best place to be!" said Meyer.
