A Stone's Throw Accommodation: Countryside Escape and Sustainability
Monday, 9th September 2024
Nestled in the hilltops above Makhanda, A Stone's Throw Accommodation offers guests a peaceful countryside escape while promoting sustainable living. Surrounded by panoramic views and wide-open spaces, located only 2 kilometres from the N2, it’s a quick seven-minute drive to the city centre—close enough for convenience, but far enough to enjoy the peace and beauty of the countryside.
Countryside Escape and Sustainability
A unique aspect of A Stone's Throw Accommodation is its strong focus on sustainability and self-sufficiency. Owner, Suzanne Wille has thoughtfully designed the property to combine the conveniences of city living with the serenity of a countryside escape. Suzanne highlights, "We have an inverter, bedside lights, and a generator to assist during load shedding and power outages." Additionally, the property harvests its own rainwater and relies on gas geysers for 80% of its hot water, enhancing its energy efficiency.
These eco-friendly initiatives operate seamlessly, ensuring guests enjoy uninterrupted comfort. Suzanne actively encourages guests to embrace sustainable practices during their stay. "We ask guests to re-use towels to help conserve water and provide instructions on what to do during power outages," she explains, fostering a responsible yet comfortable stay for all visitors.
Outdoor Adventures Await
A Stone's Throw Accommodation is more than just a place to stay; it’s a gateway to outdoor activities that appeal to nature lovers and sports enthusiasts alike. Whether it’s hiking, running, cycling, or birdwatching, the surrounding open countryside offers plenty of opportunities for adventure. The property even caters to nature photographers with its stunning views of Mountain Drive and lush green spaces.
One of the property's highlights is its spacious garden setting, where guests can unwind while enjoying the natural beauty of the area. For Suzanne, the sunsets here are a personal favourite, earning her the nickname "Sunset Suzy". She’s an avid photographer and loves capturing the magnificent views from the balconies at A Stone's Throw Accommodation. "The sunsets here are spectacular," she shares. "They’re some of the best I’ve seen, and I love sharing them with my guests."
A Passion for Sport and Community
Suzanne’s love for the outdoors extends beyond her property. As a sport enthusiast, she frequently participates in the Makhanda parkrun at the nearby Botanical Gardens, often running up to Mountain Drive. She’s also a passionate sports traveller and has completed parkruns in 19 different locations across the country. "I love how parkruns bring the community together," she says. "The Grahamstown one is the toughest!"
Her passion for fitness mirrors that of her guests, many of whom take advantage of the vast open spaces around the property for their own outdoor activities. Whether it's running or simply taking a peaceful walk, the surrounding countryside provides the perfect backdrop for relaxation and exercise.
A Cultural Retreat
While many guests come to A Stone's Throw Accommodation for the outdoor experiences, others seek the peaceful environment to reconnect with nature or even hold personal gatherings. "I’ve had guests from Makhanda itself who just want a weekend getaway, and I’ve even hosted Lobola negotiations on the property," Suzanne reflects. The property’s quiet charm and spacious setting make it ideal for a variety of cultural and personal retreats, offering something for everyone.
Whether you're an adventurer, a nature lover, or just seeking solace from city life, A Stone's Throw Accommodation promises a memorable retreat filled with country charm and modern comforts.
