Meet Ashleigh: The Magic Behind Ashtree Art

Ashleigh, the creative force behind Ashtree, will be spreading her magic at both the Night and Day Markets during the Enchanting Market and Play Day in Makhanda on 26 and 27 October 2024. With a passion for working with children and creating art that inspires, Ashleigh has become a beloved figure at local markets and events. From face painting and balloon animals to vibrant murals, her creativity knows no bounds!
Ashleigh’s love for art began in childhood, helping her mum plan birthday parties for her younger brother. “I’ve always loved working with children, and face painting became a natural extension of that,” she reflects. Whether she’s turning kids into cheeky dinosaurs, whimsical unicorns, or fierce tigers, Ashleigh delights in watching their faces light up with joy and confidence.
Beyond face painting, Ashleigh’s talents shine through in her hand-drawn stickers and colouring books. Her quirky designs spark imagination and spread creativity. From her alphabet colouring book for kids—complete with word searches and puzzles—to her mindfulness colouring book for adults, blending art with relaxation exercises, Ashleigh offers something for everyone.
“I’m really excited to be a part of this year’s event,” Ashleigh shares. “In-person events are so special because people can see my art come to life! I can’t wait to connect with the Makhanda community and share my creativity.”
In addition to her market appearances, Ashleigh is also a skilled mural artist. She’s eager to take on more mural projects in Makhanda, transforming spaces with larger-than-life artworks that inspire and brighten the community. In exciting news, Ashleigh will be holding her first-ever public exhibition on 2 November 2024 at The Corner Art Gallery in Bathurst. As one of six “new and emerging” artists, she’ll be exhibiting as part of the @artsaffairbathurst event running from 1-3 November. This marks a huge milestone in her career and a wonderful opportunity to showcase her work to a wider audience.
