Celebrating Empowerment: Embo Jewels Models and Beauty Pageants Academy
Wednesday, 25th September 2024
We are thrilled to announce that Makhanda’s very own Embo Jewels Models and Beauty Pageants Academy has been nominated for an international award in Sri Lanka! This recognition is a testament to the incredible work being done in our community, led by the inspiring Zimkhita Satsha, better known as Ashanti Satsha.
Inspiring Dreams in Joza
Based in the heart of Joza, Embo Jewels is a proud black-owned business dedicated to empowering the youth. Ashanti believes in building confidence and helping young people explore their talents. “Our goal is to keep children off the streets, keeping them dedicated and inspired,” she says. Despite facing challenges, Ashanti is grateful for this recognition, seeing it as just the beginning of even greater accomplishments.
A Vision for the Future
Currently, the Academy operates in community halls, but Ashanti dreams of utilizing beautiful locations, like the local Monument, to elevate the experience for the children. “I want them to feel beautiful and important,” she expresses passionately. The Academy hosts four pageants, including Ms. Lotus and the upcoming Ms. Spring on October 13, as well as initiatives for diverse communities like Ms. Empress Authentic for Rastafarian groups.
Leading by Example
As a mother of two and a reigning beauty queen—holding the title of Ms. Majestic Royalty SA—Ashanti exemplifies the spirit of leadership. Competing not only sets an example for her students, two of whom are also entering national pageants, but it fulfills her calling to celebrate women’s authentic selves. “We often feel we need to change ourselves to be accepted,” she reflects. “Beauty pageants are a way to express and celebrate who we truly are.”
Community Impact
The Academy’s activities extend beyond pageantry; they involve giving back to the community and addressing real issues. Participants engage in skills development sessions that empower them to make a positive impact. Ashanti’s vision includes formalizing business operations, establishing a table of former queens at events, and collaborating with local businesses to support pageantry.
Upcoming Events and Community Support
Join us at the Enchanting Night Market on September 28, where Amber Jewels, a brand within the Academy, will showcase handmade jewelry crafted from recycled materials. Proceeds will contribute to the trip to Sri Lanka for the award ceremony.
Ashanti passionately calls upon the community to support her vision for uplifting women and transporting her participants. “Pageants are about finding your true purpose,” she explains. “When women recognize their beauty from within, they can manifest a successful future.”
A Collective Journey
As we celebrate this milestone for Embo Jewels Models and Beauty Pageants Academy, let’s come together as a community to uplift our entrepreneurs and inspire the next generation. Your support can make a meaningful difference.
