Discovering Cultural Experiences at Ntomb’omxhosa Lounge
Friday, 27th September 2024
Recently, we had the pleasure of touring Ntomb’omxhosa Lounge with owner Siyabonga Bashe, who shared the inspiring journey of this vibrant cultural hub that has been delighting guests since 2014. As they celebrate a decade of operation, Siyabonga reflected on the challenges faced during the pandemic and how they emerged stronger.
“When COVID-19 hit, it was tough,” he explained. “Many businesses struggled, and we had to adapt.” During that challenging time, Siyabonga’s grocery store began to thrive as people sought convenient shopping options close to home. Seeing the need for a gathering space, he rebuilt the already existing lounge right next door to the grocery store, creating a community hub.
As conditions improved, Siyabonga took the opportunity to transform the lounge into a welcoming space for various events and gatherings. “We offer different packages to suit our guests’ preferences,” he said, adding that customization is key—if a guest wants something not included in a package, they can bring it along.
Ntomb’omxhosa Lounge is more than just a venue; it’s a place where people can relax and enjoy privacy for intimate gatherings. “We provide a cozy atmosphere where guests can unwind,” Siyabonga noted. They also feature TVs for sports enthusiasts to catch their favorite games, along with a jukebox for music lovers to enjoy.
One of the lounge’s standout attractions is the monthly Pool Tournament, which brings together teams from surrounding game reserves. This popular event has made Ntomb’omxhosa Lounge a hotspot for both locals and tourists alike.
In addition to hosting events, the lounge also supports the community through a soup kitchen that operates every Thursday and Friday in partnership with ๐๐๐ฅ๐ข๐๐๐ฅ๐ ๐๐๐ฆ๐ ๐๐๐ฌ๐๐ซ๐ฏ๐
As we wrapped up our tour, it was clear that Ntomb’omxhosa Lounge isn’t just a place to gather; it’s a cultural experience that embodies resilience, community spirit, and the rich heritage of the Makana region. Whether you’re looking to celebrate a special occasion or simply enjoy good food and company, this lounge is a must-visit destination!
