Makhanda’s Embo Jewels Models and Beauty Pageants Academy Nominated for International Award
Friday, 27th September 2024
Makhanda, South Africa – Zimkhita "Ashanti" Satsha, founder of Embo Jewels Models and Beauty Pageants Academy in Joza, announced that the Academy has been nominated for an international award in Sri Lanka. This recognition celebrates the Academy's efforts to empower and inspire local youth under Satsha's leadership.
Inspiring Dreams in Joza
Embo Jewels is more than just a beauty pageant academy; it’s a community-driven initiative focused on building confidence and guiding young people toward realizing their full potential. “Our goal is to keep children off the streets, keeping them dedicated and inspired,” says Ashanti. Despite facing challenges, this international nomination is a significant milestone, inspiring further ambition within the Academy.
A Vision for Growth
While currently operating out of community halls, Ashanti envisions a future where the Academy can use iconic locations like Makhanda’s Monument to elevate the experience for its participants. “I want them to feel beautiful and important,” she explains. The Academy hosts several pageants throughout the year, including Ms. Lotus and the upcoming Ms. Spring on October 13, with a special focus on promoting diverse communities, such as the Rastafarian community through the Ms. Empress Authentic pageant.
Leading by Example
A mother of two and reigning beauty queen, Ashanti currently holds the title of Ms. Majestic Royalty SA. Her success serves as an example for her students, two of whom are also entering national pageants. Ashanti’s passion for pageantry stems from a desire to help women embrace their authentic selves. “We often feel the need to change to be accepted. Pageants are a way to express and celebrate who we truly are,” she says.
Community Impact and Future Aspirations
Beyond pageantry, Embo Jewels is committed to giving back to the community. Participants engage in skills development sessions that empower them to make meaningful contributions to society. Ashanti aims to formalize the business, establish a table of former queens at events, and collaborate with local businesses to support future pageantry initiatives.
Upcoming Events and Support
On September 28, Embo Jewels will showcase handmade jewelry at the Enchanting Night Market. The jewelry, crafted from recycled materials, is a project under the Academy’s brand Amber Jewels, and proceeds will help fund Ashanti’s trip to Sri Lanka for the award ceremony.
Ashanti urges the community to rally behind her vision of empowering women and youth. “Pageants are about finding your true purpose,” she says. “When women recognize their inner beauty, they can manifest a successful future.”
A Collective Milestone
As Embo Jewels Models and Beauty Pageants Academy celebrates this nomination, the Makhanda community is invited to show support, fostering a collective spirit of empowerment and progress for the next generation.
