December to January is traditionally Grahamstown's quiet period - our students have gone home and most residents have left for their homes at the coast. Our city's pace lessens and life is unhurried. There's plenty of parking and no crowds. And despite what you've heard we do have water and electricity.
Grahamstown is very centrally situated and an ideal base from which to take short day trips - our City is just 134kms to Port Elizabeth or to East London, while Private Game Reserves abound in the area; drive 40kms to Bathurst and an extra 10kms sees you at the coast in Port Alfred. From there, travel the Sunshine coast either east or west to a number of smaller seaside hamlets with beautiful beaches - the choice is yours!
