Molo Summer. Hello December!
Summer holidays are finally here and the Makana region is ready to welcome old and new friends back home to experience the best of Makhanda and surroundings for an unforgettable festive season.
Under relaxed Covid-19 rules, visitors to Makana this holiday can expect an adventurous spin to their end of year breaks. From discovering the region's heart through museums, heritage sites and historical buildings to capturing priceless moments on safaris and visits to the indigenous bush, kloofs, grasslands that open up to the most gorgeous hiking and bicycle trails.
Newly appointed Makana Tourism Board Chairperson, Aldy Meyer is impressed by the amount of tourism activities that are available in the Makana Municipal area. “Makhanda has a huge unemployment rate and these tourism activities and products ensure that we can continue to create opportunities and for the unemployed to be active in the local market and economy”. He added that “buy local” campaigns rolled-out in hospitality and tourism sectors further helped promote and sustain local businesses. “For a successful roll-out, we need to bring our councillors, our community leaders on board, and our business Chambers to advocate such campaigns.”
Local businessman Eugene Repinz agreed with Meyer saying that Makhanda had a wealth of things to do, see and experience, and more people needed to know about it.
“We have a lot to offer from a local tourism point of view, Repinz said. Makhanda and its surrounds not only boast of nature reserves with a host of outdoor activities but it is also rich in arts and culture from museums to local restaurants, cafes, eateries and bars, he added.
