Event organizer Khululekile "Khanya" Cekiso, who grew up in Extension 6 in Makhanda, shares his insights on the role of events in boosting local tourism:
"I’ve been in the music events industry since 2023, and my biggest milestone was organizing a large-scale event in 2024, where I managed multiple artists and logistics. Events like the Makana Social Sunday Picnic and the Grahamstown Fan Park have helped boost tourism by bringing people together, increasing foot traffic to local businesses, and strengthening Makhanda’s cultural appeal."
He emphasizes the importance of collaborating with homestays to enhance visitor experiences:
"If local accommodations and event organizers partnered, homestays would gain more exposure, increasing their bookings. Events naturally attract travellers, and by working together, we can ensure seamless stays for guests while giving homestay owners more business opportunities."
